A mission that’s been going strong for over 30 years. Founded in 1992, GRIN is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run entirely by volunteers. We rescue dogs from shelters, surrenders, puppy mills, and difficult situations — providing medical care, foster homes, and thoughtful placement.
We’ve helped place over 4,300 dogs into loving homes, and we continue to take in dogs with complex medical and behavioral needs — because they deserve a chance too.

How does the adoption process work - and how are dogs matched?
We take a thoughtful approach to matching dogs with the right homes. The process includes an application, vet check, and home visit, followed by a meet-and-greet to ensure a strong fit.
We consider each dog’s personality, needs, and background alongside your lifestyle and home environment—focusing on long-term success, not quick placements.
How can I help if I’m not ready to adopt?
There are many ways to get involved, including fostering, volunteering, donating, or attending events. Every contribution — big or small — helps us continue our mission.
Where do your dogs come from?
Our dogs come from shelters, owner surrenders, puppy mills, and other rescue situations. Many require medical care, training, or time to adjust before they’re ready for adoption.
How are donations used?
Donations directly support veterinary care, food, transportation, and other essential needs for the dogs in our care. 100% of the money donated goes toward giving our goldens a second chance.

How long does it take to adopt a dog?
The application process typically takes a few weeks. After that, timing depends on when the right match becomes available, which can vary based on each dog’s needs.
What are the requirements to adopt?
Adopters should be prepared to provide a safe, stable, and loving home. This includes a strong veterinary history, a secure environment, and the time and resources needed to care for a dog long-term.
To adopt through GRIN, you must also live within our service area so we can properly support the process.
What costs are involved in adoption?
Adoption fees help cover medical care, vaccinations, and other expenses while the dog is in our care. While fees vary by dog, they only cover a portion of the total cost—GRIN spends an average of over $1,600 per dog.
These fees help us continue rescuing and caring for more dogs in need.
What kind of support does GRIN provide after adoption?

Fostering means temporarily opening your home to a dog in need while they wait for adoption. GRIN provides support, guidance, and veterinary care—you provide a safe, loving environment.
What if I can’t keep my dog anymore?
We understand that life circumstances can change. GRIN offers a compassionate, judgment-free surrender process to ensure your dog is placed in a safe and caring environment.
